Law

The Law Department was created by Groveport Village Council in March 2002. Kevin Shannon was appointed Groveport's first Director of Law, after having served the Village, now City, as its Solicitor, or contracted legal counsel, since January 2000.

The Director of Law is responsible for advising the City's elected officials, commissions, boards and staff on various municipal law matters. In addition to these duties, the Director of Law is also the Chief Prosecuting Attorney for the city in all criminal and traffic misdemeanors filed in Groveport Mayor's Court or in the Franklin County Municipal Court.

The Director of Law also represents the City in all civil litigation matters and, depending upon the nature of the case, may serve as appellate counsel in the Tenth District Court of Appeals or in the Supreme Court of Ohio.
