The full time staff is organized
into the following bureaus. The Administrative
Bureau consists of the Chief of Police and a civilian Administrative Assistant.
The patrol division includes a Lieutenant, four Sergeants and an
authorized strength of 11 patrol officers. The
Detective Bureau consists of a Lieutenant and two
Detectives. This
manning allows for one supervisor and at least two
patrol officers on duty at most times.

The
department’s patrol vehicle fleet is comprised of
10 marked cruisers fully equipped with mobile data
computers and cruiser cameras. There are also four
unmarked vehicles that are used by the Detective and
Administrative Bureaus. Most of the patrol officers
are also bike patrol qualified; in 2006 these
officers rode 373 hours of patrol, logging 1281
miles on the department’s fleet of eight bicycles.
The department contracts with the
Franklin
County
Ohio
Sheriff’s Office for dispatching and jail
services.
The
Community We Serve
The
City of
Groveport,
Ohio
is a growing
community of more than 5,000 residents that is
located in the southeast corner of
Franklin
County,
Ohio.
The Municipality covers nearly nine square miles and
includes 88 lane miles of roadways. Our proximity to
Rickenbacker
International
Airport
and its
associated Free Trade Zones has allowed Groveport to grow through the years and add several large
industrial park complexes. This tax base has allowed
the city to expand and add new housing and
related infrastructure without unduly burdening its
citizens. In 2003 and early 2004, Groveport was
able to complete and open a new outdoor aquatic
center, as well as an state of the art recreation
center with no additional taxes for its residents.
This large industrial base along with recent
expansion in retail and service businesses, combined
with the presence of eight school buildings within
the village limits, creates a unique challenge for
the Groveport Police
Department. It is estimated that the population the
Groveport Police Department is charged with policing
is 12,000 to 14,000 people daily, increasing the
demands for service on our department. In the year
2006 the Groveport Police Department handled nearly
7000 calls to service, investigated 141 automobile
accidents, and filed 1473 other offense and incident
reports.
