SPECIAL EVENTS

The community is invited to enjoy the many special events
offered by the Village of Groveport, including:
Lunch with the Bunny
is held the week prior to
Easter at Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport
Road,
"East Meets West" at the Village's annual Wellness
Fair, held at Groveport Town Hall in the spring of each
year. Dozens of traditional and alternative health
care practitioners offer visitors a sample service, literature
and general information at this free event, held this year on
Saturday, April 17, 2010 from 11 am - 2 pm.
Keep Groveport Beautiful Day
will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010 for volunteers who plant flowers in area parks, distribute flower seeds and litter bags to area neighborhoods, and pick up trash in communal areas.
A free
Nature Fair
is annually held in early June in Heritage Park, 551 Wirt Road.
The fair will feature children's crafts, educational displays and
hayrides.
Village Independence Day
will be celebrated on Saturday, July 3, 2010.
Programming will include the Main Street Parade
at 1:30 pm and fireworks at dusk.
Brown Dog Day: Brown dogs, white kittens, iguanas
and all types of pets are included in the Village's annual pet
show and competition. Prizes may go to the puppy
with the longest eyelashes or the most exotic pet.
Groveport's Hometown Cruise-In,
co-sponsored by the Southeastern Franklin County Chamber of
Commerce,
is annually held in mid-September.
Featuring a juried show of cars at least 25 years old, awards
are presented to the Top 30 entrants at 3 pm. Other
vehicles are welcome to participate but are ineligible for
awards.
Apple Butter Day,
annually held on the second Saturday in October
offers pioneer music, homemade crafts and skilled craft demonstrators, all held on the grounds of the Village's 1820's Log House in Heritage Park on Wirt Road.
Make a Difference Day
is a national day of
service that is coordinated locally by the Groveport Nature
Center. The 2009 project included the
collection and packing of toiletries and home products to
benefit the Homeless Families Foundation.
Halloween is celebrated
annually with Trick or Treat from 5:30 - 7 pm, followed by a
community Halloween Block Party, sponsored by the Groveport
Madison Lions Club, at 7 pm in front of Groveport Town Hall. Other Halloween-related special events and programs are
sponsored by Groveport Town Hall, Heritage Park Nature Center
and Groveport Recreation Center.
Salute to Veterans is held annually on November 11 in Groveport's Veterans Park, 421 Main Street. The tribute recognizes all recent sponsors of engraved bricks in the park's Honor Court.
Santa Claus will visit Groveport
on Friday, December 4 with the annual
Tree Lighting Ceremony
across from Town Hall at 6:30 pm and the arrival of Santa
in Town Hall at 7 pm to officially begin the Christmas season.
Hometown Holiday,
co-sponsored by the Groveport Heritage Society and the
Village of Groveport, offers sites of interest for
members of the entire family to enjoy. Tickets may be
purchased for $5/person at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main Street,
or at Bierberg Mercantile, 607 Main Street. Children 5 and
under are free. |
