The City of Groveport has an ordinance that requires property owners to keep their sidewalks, curbs, and gutters free of snow and ice. After confirmation of a violation, the City's Property Maintenance Inspector will send a violation notice, allowing the owner time to correct the violation. With the remainder of February forecasted to be above freezing, the City will use this time to educate the public of their responsibility.
It should be noted that an Ohio Supreme Court case has found that, due to the natural accumulation of snow and ice, anyone who ventures out assumes a risk, and even if the owner violates a local ordinance, may not be found civilly responsible.
